Who we are

Gilani Mobility New Zealand is an online mobility equipment store supplying electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, patient transfer equipment, wheelchair ramps, bathroom aids and other accessibility products to customers throughout New Zealand.

Our New Zealand store is operated by Gilani Engineering, an established Australian engineering and mobility company based in Sydney, NSW. Gilani Engineering was founded by Ramin “Ray” Gilani, a qualified mechanical engineer with practical experience in mobility equipment, assistive technology, wheelchair-accessible vehicles and vehicle modifications.

Mobility Equipment and Support Across New Zealand

Through our New Zealand online store, we supply electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, patient hoists, transfer equipment, wheelchair ramps, hospital beds, bathroom aids and other mobility equipment to customers throughout New Zealand.

Our team helps customers understand and compare important product specifications, including user-weight capacity, overall dimensions, product weight, folded size, driving range, portability and intended use. For specialised equipment, customers can contact us before ordering to discuss their requirements and request detailed product information.

Gilani Mobility New Zealand is supported by the practical engineering and mobility-equipment experience of Gilani Engineering in Australia. We provide product quotations, NZ-wide delivery, warranty information and after-sales support by phone and email.

Where equipment requires an individual clinical assessment or professional prescription, we recommend confirming suitability with an appropriate healthcare professional before ordering.

Engineering Experience Behind Gilani Mobility New Zealand

Gilani Mobility grew from Gilani Engineering, an Australian engineering and mobility company based in Sydney, NSW. Founded by qualified mechanical engineer Ramin “Ray” Gilani, the company developed its experience through practical work with mobility equipment, assistive technology, wheelchair-accessible vehicles and accessibility modifications.

Gilani Mobility New Zealand was established as an online-only store, giving customers throughout New Zealand access to electric wheelchairs, mobility scooters, patient transfer equipment, wheelchair ramps and other specialised mobility products.

The NZ store is supported by the Gilani Engineering team in Australia, which provides product information, specification guidance, quotations, delivery assistance, warranty information and after-sales support. Although we do not operate a physical showroom in New Zealand, customers can contact our team by phone or email before and after ordering.

Gilani Mobility has also expanded into the UAE and other international markets. This wider experience supports the group, while gilanimobility.co.nz remains a dedicated online store for customers throughout New Zealand.

Our Engineering History

Gilani Engineering began in Sydney, Australia, with two welding machines, two vehicle hoists, one employee and a 200 m² workshop.

Founder Ramin “Ray” Gilani set out to solve a practical accessibility challenge: creating a compact wheelchair-accessible vehicle that did not depend on an external ramp or require a large van. The aim was to develop a solution suitable for popular people movers such as the Kia Carnival and Honda Odyssey.

Combining hands-on fabrication with automotive and mechanical engineering, Ray invested approximately six months and $200,000 developing and refining an internal wheelchair elevator system. The integrated design was created to provide wheelchair access while reducing the need for external ramps and unnecessary manual handling.

That first project established the engineering-led approach behind Gilani Engineering. The same focus on practical design, product specifications, accessibility and real-world use continues to support the mobility equipment supplied through Gilani Mobility New Zealand today.

Founder profile

Meet Our Founder

Ramin “Ray” Gilani is the mechanical engineer behind Gilani Mobility and Gilani Engineering.

Ray began his technical education in Sweden, studying motorsport at Motorsportgymnasiet. He later completed a Bachelor’s degree in Automotive Systems Engineering at Luleå University of Technology in 2010 and a Master’s degree in Mechanical Engineering at Monash University in Melbourne.

His early professional experience included automotive component testing at Gestamp HardTech. From 2012, he worked in the accessible-vehicle industry, designing, developing and helping manufacture wheelchair-accessible vehicles and disability-related products.

Ray worked directly with engineers, technicians, welders, panel beaters and vehicle-body specialists. This combination of technical and hands-on experience gave him an understanding of the complete development process—from identifying a customer need and preparing an engineering design to manufacturing, testing and improving the finished product.

He established Gilani Engineering to combine engineering knowledge with practical mobility solutions. His experience continues to influence how Gilani Mobility evaluates technical information, selects products and supports customers purchasing mobility equipment online.
