Turn Your Manual Wheelchair Into a Power Chair
The Smart Power Assist attaches to the back of your chair and does the pushing for you, so you keep the manual wheelchair you are already fitted to and comfortable in. It lets you go up hills and ramps, over thick carpet, and across long distances — essentially anywhere that is hard to push.
- Keep your own wheelchair — no need to buy and re-adjust to a new electric chair
- Fits most manual wheelchairs — folding, rigid, tilt-in-space, one-arm drive and standing frames
- Quick to fit and remove — switch back to manual mode whenever you want
- Lightweight at 6.85kg — easy to lift in and out of the car
A power assist conversion kit is a practical, lower-cost alternative to a full electric wheelchair for many users. If you are unsure whether it suits your chair, talk to our team first.
How It Works
The Smart Power Assist is simple and intuitive to operate, and the on/off and two-speed settings can be reached while seated. Get going yourself and the power assist engages within 0.5 seconds to maintain that speed. To speed up, slow down or stop, grab your wheels and the power assist adjusts accordingly.
- Two speed settings: 2.5–5 km/h on low, 2.5–8 km/h on high
- Engages within half a second of you starting to move
- Anti-rollback feature — stop on a hill and get going again easily
- Detach the motor by releasing the levers to return to manual pushing
Smart Power Assist Benefits
Increase your independence. The Smart Power Assist dramatically reduces how many times you have to push in a day. This helps reduce fatigue and pain in the shoulders and arms, so you can get out and about more on your own.
Surprisingly powerful. It handles the steepest ramps and footpaths, and even thick padded carpet is no problem. The anti-rollback feature lets you stop on a hill and quickly get going again.
Easy to install. The system weighs only 6.85kg and attaches to the back of the chair. It fits most makes and types of wheelchair, including folding, tilt-in-space, one-arm drive and standing frames.
Will It Fit My Wheelchair?
The Smart Power Assist is designed to fit most standard manual wheelchairs using adjustable adapters. Before ordering, it helps to check:
- Frame type — folding, rigid, tilt-in-space, one-arm drive and standing wheelchairs are all generally compatible
- Frame tubing — the mounting attaches to the rear frame; send us a photo if you are unsure
- User weight and terrain — for steep hills or heavier users, contact us to confirm suitability
Not sure if your chair is compatible? Send us your wheelchair make and model and we will confirm before you buy.
